The Wife of Angola's ambassador to Tanzania, Silvia de Oliveira has urged the community to visit and support vulnerable groups including orphans. This is so that they feel part of society. She made the call soon after visiting the Kurasini national orphanage center in Dar es Salaam yesterday, where she donated various items to children living in the area. Some of the items donated included maize flour, soap, rice, wheat flour, clothes, shoes, edible oil, sugar, and salt.
Ms. Oliveira said, “The festive season is a time to come together with loved ones and remember the less privileged people who have no parents but the community.” She called upon communities and individuals from all family levels and organizations to share the little they have acquired with the children who have no one to depend on. She pledged that the embassy would continue to support the center upon the availability of funds.
Speaking at the event, an official of the Center thanked the Angola embassy for the donation which she said had come at the right time. She said the donation would go to the children and it would make them feel equal to others or not neglected by society. The official said when children get an opportunity to meet with different people and show affection it has a great impact on their lives. She appealed to the community and other well-wishers to continue supporting the center.
The orphanage which is located in Kurasini, Temeke district Dar es Salaam region houses and looks after more than 200 children, most of them being with special needs.
